Monday, May 4, 2009

To know the speed of your Internet connection you should use any internet speed test we list below. Keep in mind that your Internet connection speed depends on many factors, including your ISP, modem type, time of day, browser version, operating system, traffic and intersecting signals.

Internet Speed Test List

You can test the speed of your Internet connection with InternetFrog. Download and upload speeds are calculated, both speeds are shown in a speed graphic ranging from 14.4 modem (14.4 kbps) to T4 lines (274 Mbps). This Internet speed test is based in java (Java from Sun Microsystems, Inc must be installed on your computer). The test begins once you load the page. You may experience problems if you use Firefox (it freezes and restart is needed).

Test your Internet connection with Intel. Only the download speed is calculated. Very fast and simple to use Internet speed test.

GigaNews provides another Internet speed test where download speed can be calculated. A large datafile is sent to your browser and the download time is recorded. This should closely approximate the download rates you will get from the Giganews news servers. The result is shown in a graphic ranging from 56k to 10 Mbps speeds.

Speedtest.net detects your location automatically and provides you with the nearest servers where you can run the speed test. Also provides a list with the top 5 continents, countries and ISPs, ranked by average speed results.

Internet Speed Test in Canada

Primus provides a speed test for dial-up and DSL Internet connections.

Cogeco offers a speed test based in java. Not recommended if you use Firefox (it may freeze).

Also try Vianet Speed Test to estimate the speed of your Internet connection.

Broadband Speed Test in UK

If you live in UK, it's better to test your internet speed test against servers located in your own country. We recommend:

ZDNet UK offers a broadband speed test for Internet connections ranging from dial-up (28.8k modem) to 1.5Mb DSL/cable.

Another option is Broadband Choices. Here you are asked to enter your ISP and the speed your connection is meant to be, so you can know if you get the speed you are paying for.

Broadband Speed Test in Australia

Oz Broadband Speed Test where you can test both download and upload speed of your Internet connection, supporting Dial-up, ADSL, Cable or Wireless.

Compare your results with ZDNet Australia Broadband Speed Test. They have fancy graphics.

Speed Tests in New Zealand

Consumer Broadband Speed Test measures the upload and download speeds of your Internet connection.

Here is a broadband speed test where you can choose the locations of the servers used to run the test. Options are New Zealand, Auckland and United States.
